For many years now, I’ve used BettertouchTool in order to have ‘Windows 7-like’ window management on my Mac. With dual monitors and the need to see multiple windows at the same time, it has proven an invaluable tool. I simply can’t even work on a computer without BetterTouchTool now that I’m used to using it. The most common configurations are Illustrator on one full monitor, Illustrator toolbars and panels on 1/2 of the other screen, a terminal in 1/4 of that screen and a browser/text editor in another 1/4. BetterTouchTool makes managing all of this possible:

BetterTouchTool allows you to set up easy shortcuts to ‘throw’ windows between monitors, quickly scale them to 1/2 or 1/4 of the screen, and choose which side of the monitor to inhabit. It makes moving windows around just about perfect and doesn’t break the flow of your work to manipulate a window size. I highly recommend it!

Any FREE Better Touch Tool Alternatives? I'm comfortable with Terminal and UNIX. I just want a free alternative. 8.50 dollars is much much too expensive with the current exchange rates. (You can buy approximately 15 liters of milk, 25 loaves of bread, a 500 km bus ticket, and a discounted plane ticket for that here, for reference). BetterTouchTool is a great, feature packed app that allows you to customize various input devices on your Mac. You can use any of the supported trigger/input types and choose from a large and always growing list of actions to automate almost any task. Customize the Touch Bar. BetterTouchTool enables you to reimagine the Touch Bar the way you’ve always wanted. From precisely editing the existing setup to creating new functional buttons to even defining the spacing between elements, your Touch Bar will be able to encompass unique triggers that perfectly complement the way you work.

SyncBack Touch is a cross-platform service (Windows, macOS, Linux and Android), that lets SyncBack remotely access a device’s file system in order to perform backup/restore and sync operations. SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE ship with two free connections to SyncBack Touch. I also use lots of keyboard shortcuts to quickly access custom scripts and menu items in Adobe Illustrator. Through MacOS 10.11.6, an app called Spark allowed me to manage the keyboard shortcuts, but it is no longer in development and doesn’t work in new versions of MacOS. BetterTouchTool comes to the rescue and now does double duty: Fantastic window management and the ability to set up application-specific keyboard shortcuts. We have created and released a dedicated import routine for BookCAT users, wanting to switch to Book Collector. This import feature is available in Version Cobalt.3 build 1, released on January 9.

Movie Collector: Import tool for CATVids users

Our longtime competitor FNProgramvare (the maker of CATVids) has ceased operations. We received loads of requests from current CATVids users, seeking an alternative, for an import feature.
We have created and released a dedicated import routine for CATVids users, wanting to switch to Movie Collector. This import feature is available in version Cobalt.3 build 1 and up, released January 9.

Music Collector: Import tool for CATraxx users

Our longtime competitor FNProgramvare (the maker of CATraxx) has ceased operations. We received loads of requests from current CATraxx users, seeking an alternative, for an import feature.

Recommended maintenance update for Movie Collector 9

A small, but recommended, maintenance update of Movie Collector 9 for Windows has just been released.

Fixed:

• Update Automatically: sometimes actor image links would disappear
• Main Screen: sorting on IMDB rating was very slow
• Quick Search: cast and crew names weren’t always searched correctly depending on the “Show Names as Last Name, First Name” option
• Edit Lists: ID column was never showing values
• Templates: movie poster or backdrop weren’t showing when movie had no links.

To update, just use Help > Check for Updates in your current version of Movie Collector.

Patrick will follow suit, the major upgrade for Mac will be released by the end of May.
