How To Send Contacts From Gmail To Phone

  • Gmail makes the communication between people more convenient as it has the function of saving the contacts when people send emails using their Android cell phone. In this case, some users may want to sync contacts from Gmail to Android cell phone.
  • If you keep most of your contacts in an Android-based device, you should import contacts from Gmail to Android. As a result, when you lose your phone or it is damaged, you do not have to lose your contacts. The Gmail acts as online storage for your contacts where you can recover them from whenever you want.

If you’re new to iPhone, learn how to sync Google Contacts to your phone. Open your iPhone or iPad's Settings app. Tap Accounts & Passwords Add Account Google. Enter your email and password. Switch 'Contacts' on. At the top, tap Save. To start syncing, open your iPhone or iPad's Contacts app. Step 2 Click on Contacts and check to see if all the contacts are synced. Step 3 Scroll down to note the number of contacts. Step 4 Cross-check with your iPhone contacts (scroll-down in Contacts app). Export Contacts as vCard File and Transfer to Gmail. Step 1 Click on Contacts.

You are working with Gmail or G Suite and you need users in your organization to share new contacts with their colleagues, in the same way that they share Google Docs or Calendars.

Here are the different ways to do it efficiently:

The simplest way: Share Google Contacts Groups (a.k.a “Contact Labels” or “Address Books”)

How To Send Contacts From Gmail To Phone

The best practice is to organize your contacts into labels in Google Contacts Manager and share them using the Shared Contacts for Gmail Extension for Chrome. If you are not using Chrome as a browser, you can install their web application to share Google Contacts.

Step 1: Make sure you have contact groups

In Google Contacts, you have the possibility to organize your contacts into groups. They are called “Contact Labels” in Google Contacts interface. A Contact can belong to several labels.

Create one label for each category of contacts (such as, “Clients”, “Suppliers”, “Internal”, “Private” and so on).

Add the appropriate label(s) to your contacts.

Once the contacts you want to share are in a label, you’re all set to share this group with whomever you want!

Step 2 : Share your Google Contacts

How to send contacts from gmail to phone

To share a Google contact group (or contact label) with other G Suite or Gmail users, simply follow these steps :

  1. Make sure you have installed Shared Contacts for Gmail Chrome Extension (if you have Chrome) or Shared Contacts for Gmail web app for other browsers.
  2. Go to Google Contacts.
  3. Click on the Share icon next to the label to open the sharing settings.
  4. Select users or users groups you want to share this contact group with (the same way you add recipients of an email).
  5. Click on “Share”.
  6. Define the permissions (View Only / Can Edit / Can Delete / Can Share / Is Owner).
  7. You are all set! In a few seconds, the users will now see the shared label in their Google Contacts and in their Android phones.
  8. If they have at least “Can Edit” permission, they will also be able to update the shared contacts or add new ones in the label.

The tedious way: import/export csv files

Create Excel files with the contact information you want to be included. You can then export this as a CSV file and send this CSV file with your colleagues who can then upload the CSV file into their own personal Google Contacts manager.

The main drawback with this solution is that contacts will never be up-to-date in real-time.

The business way: Use a CRM

There are many of these on the market, such as Zoho CRM or Nimble. All of these are good if you’ve got a large sales/marketing team working in collaboration with each other.

The Google Contacts Delegation Feature allows you to let another Google user to access all your contacts.

How does it work?

  1. Open Google Contacts
  2. Click on “Delegate Access”
  3. Select the account to whom you wish to give access
  4. This person will then access to all your contacts
  • Note #1: the delegated user will not have access to your labels (contact groups)
  • Note #2: The delegated user will not be able to access the shared contacts on their mobile, in Gmail autocomplete or in the contacts search bar.
Get Canary Mail
Your path to a focused and securely encrypted inbox.

For most who use email to communicate with others, contacts are automatically added. Once you begin chatting with someone, their contact information may be automatically added to your Gmail, making it easier to initiate another conversation later.

But most don’t know how to add a contact in Gmail, how to find contacts in Gmail, or how to edit contacts in Gmail. And there's a good reason for that: contacts no longer live in Gmail proper!

Here we’ll show you how to do all of the above as well as how to import contacts to Gmail, how to export Gmail contacts, and how to delete contacts from Gmail for good.

Where are contacts in Gmail

Years ago, Gmail had a dedicated ‘contacts’ section. At some point, Google migrated contacts to its own standalone service within the Google suite of apps and services.

There are a few ways to get to your contacts, though. The upside is you don’t really have to go through Gmail to edit, delete, or manage contact information now.

The two main ways to get to your Google Contacts is to visit contacts.google.com while logged into your Google account, or click the familiar nine-dot menu present across Google websites and select “Contacts.”

Both steps lead you to contacts.google.com, where all your contacts, lists, and management tools are located.

Contacts on your iPhone, iPad mail app

Much like Google, Apple also houses your contacts in a separate service. Though not an app, your iPhone and iPad both have a partition in the Settings app specifically for contacts. Here’s how to find them:

  1. Select the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad
  2. Scroll down until you see “Contacts”
  3. Select “Contacts,” and click on any contact to manage the information in that profile

How to add contacts to Gmail

Adding contacts to Gmail is as simple as adding them to your Google contacts. Google Contacts is linked across the apps you use with your Google account. Here’s how:

  1. Go to contacts.google.com
  2. On the top left of the window, select “Create contact”
  3. Select “Create new contact”
  4. In the popup window, enter the information for your new contact
  5. Select “Save” at the bottom of the popup window

Many users aren’t excited by using Google Contacts, or managing contacts in their iPhone’s settings. While these methods are good for finding and editing info, they’re limited tools. A better app for managing contacts as well as email for you may be Canary.

Canary for Mac is a native app that provides full end to end encryption for email, and allows you to better filter, organize, and get through your email inbox with ease. Canary has the ability to manage read receipts, snooze emails, and view contact profiles.

The right side of the screen has a contact view, displaying all the information for that person, and an option to quickly ‘favorite’ them.

How to edit Gmail contacts

Editing contacts in Google Contacts is really simple. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Visit contacts.google.com
  2. Select the contact you want to edit
  3. In the popup window that appears, click the pencil icon at the top right corner
  4. Edit the contact information
  5. Select “Save” at the bottom right corner of the window

Though Google contacts can sync to your main Apple contacts service, some want to avoid Google contacts altogether. Unibox may be what you’re looking for if you want to use Gmail but not Google contacts.

A native email app for Mac, Unibox groups emails and messages by sender, providing a holistic view of chats organized by sender. It also allows direct addition of contacts to your Mac’s contacts app, which syncs to your other iOS and iPadOS devices via iCloud.

All you have to do is right-click the icon on any contact in your inbox, select “Add to address book,” and Unibox will open your Mac contacts app with the information it knows about the person emailing you. Brilliant!

How to import contacts

Importing contacts to Google contacts is easy, too. First, be sure you’ve exported contacts from your other email service or contacts app as a CSV file. This is a filetype Google contacts is able to read.

From there, follow these steps:

  1. Visit contacts.google.com
  2. From the left side of the window, select “Import”
  3. Select “Select file”
  4. Choose the CSV file saved to your Mac you wish to import
  5. Select “Import” at the bottom right corner of the popup window

That’s all it takes! The contacts in the CSV file you uploaded to Google contacts will show up in your list. Keep in mind while it’s typically immediate, it sometimes takes a while for contacts to show up, especially across devices.

How to export contacts

If you want to export your Google contacts for use elsewhere, it’s also very simple. Here’s how it’s done:

Import
  1. Visit contacts.google.com
  2. On the left side of the screen, select “Export”
  3. Choose the list you want to export (Note: You can export a single “label” in Google contacts, or your whole contacts list. You won’t be able to select multiple “labels,” which are sub-lists of contacts. If there are multiple lists you want to export, you can create a new label for those contacts, add the label to those contacts, and export that label’s list.)
  4. Choose your “export as” option (Note: Google CSV and Outlook CSV are different, so choose carefully.)

  5. Select “Export” at the bottom right corner of the window

Your exported contacts will be saved as a CSV or vCard on your Mac.

How to delete Gmail contacts

There are two ways to delete Gmail contacts: individually, or by group. Here’s how to delete a single Google contact:

  1. Visit contacts.google.com
  2. Find the contact you wish to delete
  3. On the right side of their row, click the three-dot menu
  4. Choose “delete”
  5. Confirm you want to delete the contact

If you want to delete multiple contacts, follow these steps:

  1. Visit contacts.google.com
  2. Hover over the icon of the contact you wish to select for deletion
  3. When the checkbox appears instead of their image, select the box
  4. Follow steps two and three for all contacts you want to delete
  5. When you’ve selected all the contacts you’d like to delete, select the three-dot menu at the top of the window
  6. Select “delete”
  7. Confirm your choice
